How To Upgrade DataDefractor in Business Intelligence Studio’s toolbox

Problem:

DataDefractor integrates with the SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio toolbox. The toolbox contains information about the version of DataDefractor source component currently integrated with it.
This causes a problem when upgrading from one version of DataDefractor to a new one, because the toolbox retains the older version even though a new version of DataDefractor is installed. In this case, when you attempt to use the component by dragging and dropping it on the SSIS Data Flow canvas, you may get the following message:

The component could not be added to the Data Flow task.
Please verify that this component is properly installed.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The data flow object “InteractiveEdge.XP3.Import.Ssis.Ddl.DdlDataSource, InteractiveEdge.XP3.Import.Ssis.Ddl,
Version=1.0.0.349, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=576dedec733bc492” is not installed correctly on this computer.
(Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Design)

This is due to lack of programmatic interface to control the SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio’s toolbox.

Solution:

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Install the new version of DataDefractor
2. Launch SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio
3. Right-click on the toolbox and select Show All
4. Locate DataDefractor Source in section Data Flow Sources, right-click on the component and select Delete
5. Click OK to remove the old version of DataDefractor from the toolbox
6. Right-click on the SSIS toolbox and select Choose Items…
7. Navigate to tab SSIS Data Flow Items and check DataDefractor Source
8. Click OK to add the new version of DataDefractor to the toolbox
9. You should see DataDefractor’s icon added to the “Data Flow Sources” category in the SSIS toolbox

You can start using DataDefractor by dragging and dropping it onto your SSIS Data Flow canvas.
